Social anxiety is a pervasive problem for many teens and adults.
They want connection, friendship, and even love but find it hard to trust that anyone could actually like them.
They avoid social situations to limit the pain and the fixated thinking that comes with social interactions.
“I sound stupid.”
“I’m boring.”
“I’ve got nothing to offer.”
Throw thoughts like those in with comparison to others, and that’s a certain recipe to keep you on the couch and not out living the life you desire.
To be clear, most of us have thoughts like these sometimes.
The difference between having times when you’re lacking confidence and social anxiety is social anxiety holds you back from your life.
It makes your world start to get smaller.
Social anxiety makes it so you feel you need to be certain about who is going to be there, and those people are in your comfort zone.
It has you pervasively replay situations and/or create disasterous movies in your mind about how poorly things will go.
If you notice what I’m saying applies to you then I encourage you to seek therapy. It can be a great way to build confidence. It can also unleash the hold social anxiety has on living your best life.
Learning tools, strategies, and how to challenge beliefs can support you in having the relationships you desire to have in your life.
